The Pre-IAS Training Centre (PITC) came into existence in 1985. PITC was initially started at Willington College, Sangli, in 1985, vide G.R.No.IAS1084/ 28607/[61/84]/vishi-1 dt.30/9/1985. Subsequently this Centre was shifted to the famous Rajaram College, Kolhapur, in 1986, vide G.R.No.IAS1089/853/vishi-1 dt.6/10/1986. In due course of time in 1991 with the efforts taken by the then Principal, Rajaram college and the Director of PITC, it was shifted to the famous 'Gymkhana Building' of Rajaram college, within the campus of the college.



The jurisdiction of PITC Kolhapur, includes Sangli, Satara, Pune, Solapur, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurga and Belgaum districts. Any Students from any University in India can seek admission in PITC on merit basis.
Some of the objectives of PITC are :-
  • To develop awareness for IAS in the students from Urban and specially, those from the rural areas and backward sections of society, to seek a career in the higher public services, appropriate to their abilities and potential through competitive examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission;
  • To provide assistance, guidance, training and coaching to enable the intending candidates to prepare themselves academically, for such examination and also develop in them the necessary, personal qualities and attitudes;

  • To promote and assist the developments, in the Universities and Colleges in Maharashtra of the necessary special interest and competence to further these purposes
